Trade Policy Updates

On January 3, 2017, the Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) published a Final Rule announcing that, effective December 31, 2016, it will be mandatory for trade to file required DDTC import and export data electronically with CBP. For more information regarding the changes, please see the DDTC notice published in the Federal Register (82 FR 15): https://www.pmddtc.state.gov/FR/2017/82FR15.pdf

Beginning December 31, 2016, when declaring permanent or temporary exports and/or temporary imports of defense articles controlled by the U.S. Munitions List (USML), traders will input data relevant to DDTC in CBP’s electronic system(s). CBP will transmit the relevant shipment details to DDTC via an electronic data exchange, eliminating the need for traders to notify DDTC separately.
