USCIS to Release a Revised Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status

The Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) would like to highlight U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' (USCIS) plan to publish a revised Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status

As USCIS announced earlier this month, USCIS will publish on its website and only accept the revised Form I-539 and Form I-539A, Supplemental Information for Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status (edition date 02/04/19) starting March 11, 2019.  The revised form makes several changes, including the addition of signature and biometrics fee requirements.  The public can access an unofficial version of the revised Form I-539 here and Form I-539A here to review the anticipated changes.  Additional guidance on the revised form is available on the USCIS website here

USCIS will host a teleconference on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Eastern to discuss the revisions and hear stakeholder concerns.  The CIS Ombudsman's Office encourages its stakeholders to attend this USCIS event to learn more about the planned changes and ask questions during the open question and answer session.  The CIS Ombudsman's Office will continue to monitor this issue and engage with USCIS to ensure a fair and transparent process.
