Envirothon Team

State Conservationist and NHACD President Honor NH Envirothon Team

Keene High School team placed 4th in the nation overall and 1st in the soils category

On September 16th, State Conservationist Rick Ellsmore, NHACD President Roger Noonan, District Conservationist Steve Pytlik, Soil Conservationist Heidi Konesko, and Soil Scientist Peter Whitcomb honored Keene High School NH Envirothon winners and their coach who placed 4th nationally and 1st in the soils component, with some help from the NRCS and NHACD.    More

New Hampshire Announces Conservation Innovation Grant Recipients


Last year, ORIS refugee farmers celebrated the installation of their first high tunnel.  Now, thanks to a 2013 Conservation Innovation Grant, they will be using, teaching about, and studying solar-powered pump rainwater catchment systems on five high tunnels.

New Hampshire NRCS has awarded five Conservation Innovation Grants to the following organizations:  The Monadnock Conservancy, The Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success, University of New Hampshire College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, and Granite State Graziers.   More

NRCS NH Soil Scientist Teaches UNH Soils Classes

On September 20th, NRCS Soil Scientist, Peter Whitcomb, taught two Intro to Soils Classes at UNH.  He shared his soil experiences across the nation and inspired the students by telling them that understanding soils is a "puzzle to be solved".    More

Feds Feed Families

State Office People's Garden Volunteers:  Ryan DuBois, Shari Cohen, Margaret Newman, Sue Knight, Ian Rodgers, and Michelle Browne

The Lancaster, Conway and Durham NRCS offices contributed a total of 318 pounds of food to the Feds Feed Families food drive.  Much of that came from People’s Gardens located at the sites.  In Lancaster, the North Country Charter Academy helped with the final harvest from their People’s Garden.  The Conway office was highlighted in a local publication for their donations to the Brown Church Food Pantry.   Contributions from the gardens included:  zucchini, summer squash, chard, beets, beans, carrots and lettuce.
