NRCS Seeking Applications for 2018 Regional Conservation Partnership Program

Richmond, January 17, 2017  NRCS is now seeking applications for new partnership

projects to help improve water quality, combat drought, enhance soil health, support wildlife habitat, and protect agricultural viability through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).

In this fourth RCPP Announcement for Program Funding (APF), NRCS will award up to $252 million to promote locally driven, public-private partnerships in 2018. Interested businesses, non-governmental organizations, Indian tribes, state and local governments, soil and water conservation districts, and universities should submit pre-proposals by April 21 to be considered for funding.

Created by the 2014 Farm Bill, RCPP connects partners with producers and private landowners to design and implement voluntary conservation solutions that benefit natural resources, agriculture, and the economy. Virginia is the lead state for two of the 88 projects receiving $225 million in federal funding for 2017.

Sustainable Chesapeake has assembled a team of 16 partners to help Maryland and Virginia dairy producers develop and implement comprehensive nutrient management plans that will help meet Chesapeake Bay and local pollution reduction goals. The Virginia Marine Resources Commission will work with NRCS, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, and Virginia oyster producers to help restore the degraded oyster habitat in Virginia’s tidal tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay.

By 2018, NRCS and its more than 2,000 conservation partners will have invested at least $2.4 billion in high-impact RCPP projects nationwide. Partners must match or exceed the federal award with private or local funds.
