The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has several seasonal positions available with our Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Pale Cyst Nematode (PCN) Program in Idaho Falls, ID. We are hiring PPQ Bio Aids and PPQ Technicians across three teams: Survey, Regulatory, and Soil Processing.

Work Schedule
- Field peak season may run 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., Monday–Saturday
- Full‑time availability preferred; we can consider school schedules.
What You’ll Do

Survey (most vacancies): Travel with a team of 6–8 across southeast Idaho, collect soil samples from farm fields to screen for PCN—a pest of potatoes that is not harmful to people or animals. Expect to walk 7–10 miles/day on rough or hilly terrain and lift 30–50 pounds in all kinds of weather.

Regulatory: Work on mobile sanitation teams that clean farm equipment in PCN‑regulated areas to prevent spread. Ability to operate a high‑pressure wash unit required.

Soil Processing Facility (lab): Screen soil samples for PCN. Ability to operate a microscope and sit or stand for extended periods required. Lab hours are 6:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.
No experience? No problem.
Agriculture, lab, or equipment experience helps, but we provide thorough training for all positions.
