SUBJECT: Addition of Pale Cyst Nematode, Globodera pallida Regulated Areas in Idaho
TO: STATE AND TERRITORY AGRICULTURAL REGULATORY OFFICIALS
Effective immediately, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has added 289 acres in Bonneville and Bingham Counties, Idaho, to the pale cyst nematode (PCN) quarantine area. APHIS is taking this action based on the February 2 and 9, 2012, confirmations of PCN in three potato production fields in these counties. This addition brings the PCN regulated area to15, 756 acres in Idaho.
In accordance with the PCN regulations (7 CFR 301.86), APHIS is applying restrictions on the interstate movement of PCN regulated articles from these areas.
The cysts were collected as part of ongoing cooperative monitoring efforts by APHIS and the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. All known infested fields are located within a 5-mile radius that spans a portion of northern Bingham County and southern Bonneville County. After APHIS completes the trace investigation, which is expected this spring, the Agency will post on its website any additional acres that need to be regulated due to their primary association with the newly infested acres.
APHIS added these additional infested fields to the PCN areas under regulation. APHIS will follow-up with a notice of this change to the quarantine area in the Federal Register.
The specific regulated areas for PCN can be found on the following website:
