Hello Friend,

In September of 2023, President Biden announced his bold vision for the American Climate Corps: a workforce development and national service initiative to ensure young people have access to the skills-based training necessary for good-paying careers in the clean energy and climate resilience economy.

Today, we are excited to announce that we have put 20,000 young Americans to work in the American Climate Corps, reaching President Biden’s goal well ahead of schedule – and by the end of his term. The American Climate Corps has mobilized a new, diverse generation of young Americans – putting them to work conserving and restoring our lands and waters, bolstering community resilience, deploying clean energy, implementing energy efficient technologies, and advancing environmental justice.

Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to achieve the vision that President Biden set out, and American Climate Corps members have exceeded our wildest expectations.

In the past year, the American Climate Corps has:

  • Mobilized 20,000 members in communities all across the country. Those members served in American Climate Corps programs in all 50 states and five U.S. territories.
  • Partnered with eight federal agencies, reflecting President Biden’s all-of-government approach to addressing climate change. Those agencies include the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and AmeriCorps.
  • Supported the launch of four new, innovative service and workforce programs focused on forestry, climate-smart agriculture, economic development for energy transition communities, and clean energy: the NCCC Forest Corps, the Working Lands Climate Corps, the Clean Environment Corps, and Energy Communities AmeriCorps

The American Climate Corps was designed to ignite new interest, action and impact while operating within existing federal, state and local infrastructure. The 20,000 American Climate Corps members will continue their important work with a diverse array of government and nonprofit organization partners that have already been funded to mitigate forest fires, combat coastal erosion, preserve our parks and public lands, and more.

Some technical functionalities of the American Climate Corps, like the recruitment portal on ClimateCorps.gov, parts of the ClimateCorps.gov website and the American Climate Corps email inbox will become inoperable after Friday, Jan. 17.

President Biden and Vice President Harris continue to believe in the power of young people to tackle the existential threat of climate change while building skills that lead to good-paying climate jobs. They are encouraged by the many organizations who will carry forward the vision of this historic program.

We are so grateful for your support for the American Climate Corps over the past year and a half. It wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Thank you,

The American Climate Corps Team

PS: A special thanks to the STEM Next fellows – Deirdre, Jackie, and Danny – who joined us at the American Climate Corps Hub to help implement this initiative. Please feel free to reach out to them in the future at Climate@StemNext.org
