The first weeks in March mark an important time in the
national service world: Peace
Corps Week, February 28 – March 5; and AmeriCorps
Week, March 5 – 12. These weeks are time for our agencies’ staff, currently
serving members, alumni, staff, and supporters to celebrate the amazing work that we do in all
communities near and far.
This year we want to use our momentum to highlight the Employers of National Service network and to recruit new members to join! Here's how you can help:
- Tweet your support with #AmeriCorpsWorks and #PeaceCorpsWeek respectively
-
Join the Peace Corps Thunderclap celebrating their 55th birthday
- Use #ServiceEmployers to recognize yourself as an Employer of National Service

Even before joining Employers of National Service, many
employers had alumni of national service on their teams. Hear in their words why
hiring alumni is a smart choice for every organization.
“As a former AmeriCorps service
member, I understand the rigor of the training that AmeriCorps members
undertake during their service term. It is because of the high quality work
that AmeriCorps members produce, coupled with their commitment to community
that makes AmeriCorps alumni great candidates for employment.”
- An employee at Northwest Leadership Foundation
“My Peace Corps experience was
life-changing. The opportunity to immerse myself in a small rural community—to
live through its challenges, celebrate its successes, be part of its
rhythm--will always be a treasured part of who I am, as a person, and as public
health professional. When I hire a Peace Corps volunteer here at FHI 360, I
know immediately what I am getting—someone who can accomplish big things with
less, who views complex issues through a multi-cultural lens, and who has
experienced the true value of partnership.”
- Laura Kayser, Deputy to the Chief
Operating Officer and Director, Operations Management, FHI 360
In order to keep growing support for Employers of National
Service, we need to hear success stories from you! Please email employers@cns.gov with a story of how you
have implemented new hiring practices to reach alumni of national service,
about an outstanding employee who is an alum of national service, or with data
about how many alums have applied/been hired. All information helps us create a
more robust initiative to serve you!
The 2016 Martin Luther King Day of Service is in the record
books and what a "day on" it was! All across the nation and across the world,
AmeriCorps members, Peace Corps Volunteers, and the volunteers they led
collected and distributed food for those in need; refurbished, weatherized, and
built homes; helped children improve their reading skills and taught them about
ways to be healthier; beautified and cleaned public spaces; and in thousands of
other ways, helped expand opportunities for individuals to be the best they can
be.
These are the people you want on your team! Read more about
MLK Day or watch the Storify.
Please continue sharing your support for #ServiceEmployers on social media!
