The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is pleased to announce that CAQH CORE is hosting an educational session on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Section 1104. Section 1104 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandates that all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) covered entities comply with healthcare operating rules.
The roles and responsibilities of these HIPAA covered entities vary based upon organization type. In an effort to educate and guide providers toward compliance, this session has been designed to specifically meet the needs of those providers, provider groups and delivery systems that are beginning or in the process of implementing mandated operating rules with their trading partners.

AGENDA:
• Federal compliance requires the adoption of operating rules for three administrative transaction sets in accordance with the following timeline: o January 1, 2013: Eligibility and Claim Status. o January 1, 2014: Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA). o January 1, 2016: Five more transactions including referral/authorization and health claims/encounter information. • Providers are required to conform to these operating rules when conducting electronic transactions. • Many providers rely on their vendors to meet their obligations under HIPAA. • Health Plans are already returning more robust eligibility and benefits information within 20 seconds to those providers that are capable of requesting and receiving it electronically.
