Recommendations for family caregivers
|
A nurse practitioner with expertise in elder care has published an article offering recommendations for family caregivers, based on her own experience as an unpaid caregiver for two aging parents. Some of those recommendations include:
- Encouraging elders to engage in advance care planning while they are still able to make informed decisions
- Accepting offers of help from family, friends, and neighbors
- Setting aside time for daily self-care, even if it brings just a few moments of peace and joy
To learn more about culturally appropriate advance care planning, visit the online LTSS TA Center and watch a webinar titled My Advance Care Plan & Guide for Native Americans and Other Resources.
