Our keyboards are still smoking. Along with our partners we’ve released 244 reports on how pandemic funds were spent with 487 recommendations on how we can improve programs in the future. Check out our report on telehealth during the pandemic and this one about fighting identity theft.

We investigated cases with millions in potential fraud

 Cha-ching! We're tracking down every dollar of pandemic fraud, leading to charges like those in a $3.6 million theft by a purported monk and their lawyer. They allegedly spent money on exclusive memberships, a $40,000 wristwatch, a $7,000 handbag and a new residential property.

We held 4 events to dig deeper into pandemic relief

We had a chatty year. We brought together experts to talk about data transparency, how state and local governments track pandemic spending, how much the time tax cost people applying for pandemic aid, and how communities were involved in their local funding allocation. 

We found some serious fraud risks

We hate seeing taxpayers getting ripped off. We sent a risk advisory to the Small Business Administration warning of possible fraud against 945 minors and 241 elderly individuals. Not on our watch.

Here are some of the numbers that highlight how
pandemic funds were spent:

$52.5 billion went to helping make child care more available and safer.

$450 million was allocated to provide health care to patients at home.

$3.15 billion for a program that addresses the addiction crisis.

$2.3 billion to address mental health issues intensified by the pandemic.
