When a shipment is filed to the AES, a system response message is generated and indicates whether the shipment has been accepted or rejected. If the shipment is accepted, the AES filer receives an Internal Transaction Number (ITN) as confirmation. However, if the shipment is rejected, a Fatal Error notification is received.

To help you resolve AES Fatal Errors, here are some tips on how to correct the most frequent errors that were generated in AES this month.

Narrative: Port of Export Must Be A Road Port

Reason: The Port of Exportation Code reported is not allowed for road shipments.

Resolution:  The Port of Exportation Code reported must accommodate the mode of transport indicated in your shipment.

See Appendix D - Export Port Codes for a list of acceptable Port of Exportation Codes and their corresponding modes of transportation.

Verify the Port of Exportation Code and Mode of Transportation Code combination, correct the shipment and resubmit.

Narrative: Port of Unlading Unknown

Reason: The Port of Unlading Code reported is not valid in AES.

Resolution: The Port of Unlading Code must be valid in AES.  You must report a valid Port of Unlading for all vessel shipments and for shipments between the United States and Puerto Rico.

See Schedule K - Classification of Foreign Ports by Geographic Trade Area and Country for a list of acceptable Port of Unlading Codes for vessel shipments.

See Appendix D - Export Port Codes for a list of acceptable codes for shipments between the United States and Puerto Rico. The foreign port or unlading is the code in terms of Schedule D, Classification of CBP Districts and Ports for shipments between the United States and Puerto Rico.

Verify the Port of Unlading Code, correct the shipment and resubmit.
