2015 Product
Calendar — The Census Bureau has posted anticipated release dates for
each regular and recurring statistical product expected to be released in 2015.
The products are listed in the Census Bureau’s online product calendar, which will be updated as needed
throughout the year.
Learn What Surveys are Being Conducted in Your Community — See
which one of our 130-plus annual surveys are being conducted in your community. In a variety of surveys
and censuses, evolving from the first census in 1790, the Census Bureau
provides official information about America’s people, businesses, industries
and institutions. See surveys currently in each Census Bureau region:
American Community SurveyMigration Products — New migration flows tables use data
collected between 2009 and 2013 from the American Community Survey to show how
many residents move (or flow) from one county or metro area to another during
the course of a year. The migration flow tables for both county-to-county and
metro-to-metro include characteristics of movers by ability to speak English,
place of birth and years living in the United States. (Scheduled for release Aug.
25.)
American Community Survey: 2014 — Data collected in 2014 from
the nation’s most comprehensive survey provide statistics on more than 40
demographic, social, economic and housing topics. Some of the topics covered
include income, poverty, health insurance, educational attainment, the commute
to work, the foreign-born population, language spoken at home, ancestry,
occupation, number of vehicles available and housing costs. These statistics
will be
available for the nation, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,
every congressional district and all counties, places and metropolitan areas
with populations of 65,000 or more. (The news release will be embargoed for subscribers
on Sept. 16 for public release on Sept. 17.)
Demographic
Income and Earnings Estimates:
First Quarter 2013 — Using the two later
waves (14 and 15) from the 2008 Survey of Income and Program Participation
panel, this table package presents income and earnings estimates at the
individual, family and household level for the first quarter (January, February
and March) 2013. Estimates are provided by selected demographic
characteristics, such as gender, race/ethnicity, age, marital status and highest
level of educational attainment. Monthly income and earnings estimates for
individuals, families and households are also included. (Tentatively
scheduled for release in Aug. 25.)
Income and Poverty in the United
States: 2014 — On Sept. 16, the
Census Bureau will announce findings from its annual official report on income
and poverty for the nation based on the Annual Social and Economic Supplement
to the 2015 Current Population Survey. The report will include statistics
pertaining to the 2014 calendar year and will also compare trends over time. (Additional
information regarding the time and format of the release will be included in a
separate announcement closer to the release date.)
Health Insurance in the United
States: 2014 — On Sept. 16, the
Census Bureau will announce its annual findings on health insurance coverage.
The report will include national-level statistics from the Social and Economic
Supplement to the Current Population Survey and some national and state-level
statistics from the American Community Survey. It will include data from
the 2014 calendar year and compare it to the previous year. (Additional
information regarding the time and format of the release will be included in a
separate announcement closer to the release date.)
Infographic: Measuring Race and Ethnicity Across the
Decades: 1790-2010 — This
interactive infographic allows users to understand how race and ethnicity
categories have changed over time since the 1790 Census. (Tentatively scheduled
for release in August or September.)
Languages Other Than English Spoken at Home — This table package presents statistics from the American
Community Survey on over 340 detailed languages spoken at home in the United
States. It includes estimates of the number of speakers and their English ability
for each language for the nation, states and Puerto Rico as well as counties
and core-based statistical areas (metropolitan and micropolitan areas) with
populations of 100,000 or more and 25,000 or more speakers of languages other
than English or Spanish. (Tentatively scheduled for release in September.)
The Supplemental Poverty
Measure: 2014 — The fifth annual
report from the Census Bureau describing this measure, which complements, but
does not replace, the official measure. The report compares U.S. 2014
supplemental poverty estimates with 2014 official poverty estimates for
numerous demographic groups. It also compares national 2013 supplemental
poverty estimates with 2014 supplemental poverty estimates and examines the
effect of adding or excluding individual resource or expenditure elements. (Tentatively scheduled for release in September.)
Economic
2013 Manufacturing and International Trade Report — This
report from the U.S. Census Bureau provides a comprehensive comparison between
detailed manufacturing product class data and associated import and export
data. The data are published on a North American Industry Classification System
basis from the 2012 Economic Census Subject Series and the 2013 Annual Survey
of Manufactures, presented with official U.S. export and import merchandise
trade statistics. The first report was released on Dec. 18, 2014. (Tentatively
scheduled for release in August.)
2012 Economic Census
Geographic Area Series — Continuing on a flow basis through September 2015,
this series provides detailed industry statistics by geographic area for
establishments of firms with paid employees. Data are shown on the 2012 North
American Industry Classification System
basis. These data supersede the data shown in the Industry Series and may be
superseded by data shown in later publication series for selected sectors. See:

2012
Economic Census Subject Series — Continuing on a flow basis
through June 2016, the subject seriesreports supplement other products
and present tabulations for the U.S. with some state detail. Reports for most
sectors include establishment and firm size (including legal form of organization).
Miscellaneous subjects reports for the manufacturing sector include general summary,
products summary, materials consumed summary and concentration ratios in manufacturing.
Facts for Features
Back to School — After a nice summer break,
students will prepare to return to school for the 2015-16 academic year. This
fact sheet presents statistics from demographic and economic subject areas
pertaining to teachers, students and the reopening of our country’s schools in
late summer. (Tentatively
scheduledfor release in August.)
Unmarried and Single Americans Week (Sept.
20-26) — The third full week of September recognizes the
nation’s unmarried Americans with an array of statistics about this group from
the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject
areas. (Tentatively
scheduled for release in September.)
Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15)
—During this monthlong observance, our nation
celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots
to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South
America and the Caribbean. The Census Bureau joins in the celebration with this
fact sheet presenting a range of updated statistics describing the demographic
state of the nation’s Latino population. (Tentatively scheduled for release in September.)

Highlighted Participants in Census Bureau’s City Software Development Kit Data
Solutions Challenge — Aug. 13 — On Thursday, Aug. 13, the U.S. Census
Bureau showcased solutions built by
the U.S. developer community using an open-source tool called the City
Software Development Kit.
This webinar
was held in partnership with Challenge.gov. Ian Kalin, chief data officer at
the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Avi Bender, the U.S. Census Bureau’s chief
technology officer, provided feedback on each of the featured tools.
OnTheMap Update — Aug. 13 — The U.S. Census Bureau released version
6.4.1 of the OnTheMap
application. The update includes 2013 Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics
Origin-Destination Employment Statistics, which follow the June release of 2012
data. OnTheMap now contains 12 years of data (2002-2013).
The 2013 statistics contain data for 48 states and
the District of Columbia (Kansas and Massachusetts are not included). Along
with the release in OnTheMap, the 2013 data have been made available for download as data
files.
Who Drives to
Work? Commuting by Automobile in the United States: 2013 — Aug. 13 —This American Community Survey report focuses on
patterns of commuting by private vehicles. It highlights differences in rates
of automobile commuting by key population characteristics, such as age, race,

Census Bureau to Host Technical Meeting on
Plans for Upcoming Releases of Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage
Estimates— Aug. 20 — The U.S. Census Bureau will host a briefing on
the federal statistical community’s plans related to the measurement and
release of data on income, poverty and health insurance coverage. Presenters
from the Census Bureau will provide information about the measurement of
income, poverty and health insurance from the Current Population Survey Annual
Social and Economic Supplement, and health insurance from the American Community
Survey and the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates
Program. Presenters from the National Center for Health Statistics will
provide information about the health insurance coverage statistics from the

The general summary provides
detailed statistics by subsectors and industries, including employment size and
legal form of organization. It also provides data on inventories, primary
and secondary product value of shipments, and primary product class
specialization.
The materials summary provides
material consumed data by industry. The product summary provides product
and product class statistics for the U.S. and selected states. Location of
manufacturing plants provides employment size data for subsectors and industries
by U.S., state, county and place. Concentration ratios provide data
accounted for by the four, eight, 20 and 50 largest manufacturing. Internet

2012 Economic Census,
Survey of Business Owners, Company Statistics Series: Preliminary Company
Summary — Aug. 18 — TheSurvey of Business Ownersprovides a detailed portrait of America’s businesses and business owners
from the national to the local level once every five years. The preliminary company
summary provides estimates for the number of firms, receipts, employment
and payroll by gender, ethnicity, race and veteran status at the U.S.,
state and sector levels. The final company summary will be released in December
2015 and will include estimates for more detailed geography and North American
Industry Classification System levels. The characteristics of businesses
and business owners will also be published in December 2015. Internet address:

of Americans Drive to Work, But Less so for Urban Millennials — Aug. 13 —
Brian McKenzie writes that driving alone reached its highest point in 2010, at
76.6 percent of workers, after a decades-long pattern of increase. It remained
the most common type of work travel in 2013.
