Celebrate Handwashing Awareness Week

The holiday season is here, and with it comes cold and flu season, too. This week is Handwashing Awareness Week – the perfect time to remind children, students, parents, and caregivers about the importance of handwashing to help ensure that everyone stays healthy through the holidays. Handwashing is the single most important thing you can do to help prevent the spread of germs that can make you and others sick.

Here’s what you can do to help spread the word during Handwashing Awareness Week:

  • Download CDC’s new handwashing posters to help remind kids that germs are everywhere, and a healthy future is in their hands.
  • Watch and share this handwashing demonstration video to make sure you and your loved ones are maximizing germ removal when washing hands.
  • Spread the word on social media with this message: "Handwashing is one of the most important things you can do to avoid getting sick! Start making handwashing a habit this #HandwashingAwarenessWeek"

Create a Handwashing Campaign for Your School Community

You can also help promote handwashing in your community by entering your school into the Healthy Schools, Healthy People, It’s a SNAP handwashing recognition program. Schools can submit a one-page summary of their handwashing project to apply for national recognition and an all-expense paid trip for 3 to Washington, DC, or Atlanta, GA. The deadline to apply for national recognition is January 31. Learn more at http://itsasnap.org.
