Dear Friend,
I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during these challenging times. Below is some of the work my staff and I have done this week to serve you and everyone in the 52nd Congressional district.
The House of Representatives is not in session and I am in San Diego for the August District Work Period. While home, we continue to work on critical legislation that will support relief efforts related to COVID-19. Stay tuned to updates on my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts next week for more details.
Meeting with USD Associated Student Government leaders
I spoke with students from the University of San Diego and offered advice on how they can be better advocates for their student body, how to communicate with elected officials, and how America needs more problem solvers in leadership positions.
Meeting with representatives from the Armenian National Committee
I virtually met with representatives from the Armenian National Committee to discuss USAID appropriations which fund demining efforts on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, reaffirming the U.S.-Armenian partnership, recognizing a successful democratic transition of government after recent elections, and ongoing concerns due to regional tensions.

Barbara from Mira Mesa contacted the district office at the beginning of June concerning the CARES Economic Impact Payment she had not received. My district staff repeatedly reached out to the IRS to request updates on the disbursement of funds. Initially, the IRS said there was an issue with her direct deposit, then the agency said it would conduct additional research to confirm her income. After two and a half months of advocacy from our office, Barbara received her check in the mail this week.

I had a very special discussion with a 13-year-old constituent whose father reached out because he wanted his daughter to hear from her Congressman about the current state of our country. We spoke about the importance of working together in Congress and advocating for important issues, and the right to peaceful assembly among other important topics. |
