Dear Friend,
I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during these challenging times. Below is some of the work my staff and I have done this week to serve you and everyone in the 52nd Congressional district.
Vote on Second Federal Spending Package
One week ago, I helped the House pass a second federal spending package to fund critical programs and projects for fiscal year 2021. The package covers a wide range of priorities in our nation’s defense; commerce, justice and science; energy and water development; financial services and general government; labor, education and health and human services; and transportation, housing and urban development. This legislation also contains significant wins for the San Diego region.
Clairemont Family Service Day
On Saturday, I joined members of the community, including San Diego City Councilmember Dr. Jennifer Campbell and Clairemont Town Council President Eden Yaege, for this special event that was adjusted due to COVID-19 concerns. Together, we supported clean-up efforts throughout Clairemont by clearing trash in areas near Balboa Avenue and Moraga Avenue.
Rare Disease Legislative Advocates (RDLA) Meeting
On Monday, I held a conference call with constituents from the Rare Disease Legislative Advocates group (RDLA) to discuss the organization's legislative priorities and concerns. As a proud member of the Rare Disease Congressional Caucus, we discussed how genome sequencing helps identify rare diseases. I also spoke about a bill I introduced, the Ending the Diagnostic Odyssey Act and recognized important projects in the community, such as the Project Baby Bear led by Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine.
A constituent from Rancho Bernardo contacted the district office at the end of May to request assistance with obtaining his tax refund. The tax return was filed in early March and would provide much needed relief as he faced financial and employment struggles in his household. Our staff worked with the constituent and the IRS Taxpayer Advocate to obtain forms and successfully clear up an internal IRS error. This week, the constituent received his refund for $9,243.70.
