American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial Site Preparations

Preparations are underway, near 2nd St and Washington Ave SW, for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial. 

Update: December 10 — This week, PEPCO is scheduled to conduct work on National Park Service land between 2nd Street, C Street and Washington Avenue. For safety reasons, pedestrian traffic patterns will be adjusted (see image at right). Future foot traffic patterns will be communicated as work continues. more

Pepco Ped Plan

Ongoing Sidewalk and Street Repairs

Work is underway to repair cracked, uneven and unsafe curbs and gutters on Delaware Avenue NE (near Union Station). This work is taking place in advance of street paving. Parking in this area will be affected during this project. more

Tuesday & Thursday evenings in December — This holiday season visit the U.S. Botanic Garden Conservatory on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for live musical performances. more

New Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer for Operations

John McPhaul

AOC is pleased to announce that John McPhaul has been selected for the Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer (D-CHCO) for Operations position. In this role, John will be directly responsible for leading the core human capital functions, including Employment and Classification; Training and Employee Development; Employee Benefits and Services; and Payroll and Processing. He will also assist Chief Human Capital Officer (CHCO), Teresa Bailey, in leading other Human Capital programs. Additionally, John will serve as Acting EEO/DP Director until a replacement has been appointed.

John came to the Architect of the Capitol as Director, Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Programs last year, and became the Acting Deputy CHCO this past June. Prior to joining the Agency, John served 25 years of active federal commissioned service in the United States Army.
