Ongoing Sidewalk Repairs

Near Longworth Building - Independence Ave

As part of an ongoing effort to repair sidewalks throughout Capitol Hill, the AOC is replacing a sidewalk adjacent to the Longworth Building. This work is scheduled to be completed during the first half of October, depending on weather conditions. The sidewalk in this area had reached the end of its serviceable life and is being demolished and replaced. Signs and other safety devices will direct pedestrians to alternate paths. View repairs on map.

Near Robert Taft Memorial - New Jersey Ave

Next week, the AOC plans to start a project to replace a section of sidewalk near the Robert Taft Memorial, along New Jersey Avenue NW. Parking adjacent to the sidewalk along New Jersey Avenue NW will be impacted by this project. The work is scheduled to completed around the end of October, depending on the weather. The sidewalk has reached the end of its serviceable life and is being demolished and replaced. Signs and other safety devices will direct pedestrians to alternate paths. View repairs on map.

Fire Hydrant Testing

The District of Columbia will be inspecting and testing approximately 100 fire hydrants around Capitol Hill on Wednesday, October 17, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The annual inspections ensure that all hydrants are working properly and ready for service in the event of an emergency. The testing process will include opening the hydrants to measure water flow. The District of Columbia crews will connect a hose and diffuser to each hydrant during testing to direct the water to catch basins. AOC staff will be accompanying the District of Columbia crews.
