USAID-PEACE CORPS COLLABORATION:
IMPACT OF DIGITAL LITERACY

Did you know the USAID-Peace Corps Global Interagency Agreement helps facilitate funding for digital literacy programming around the world? Increasingly, women and girls experience fewer opportunities to learn about digital technology and utilize those skills. To address this gender gap, USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Hub (GenDev) provided funding to the Peace Corps to expand women’s and girls’ digital literacy access and invest in technical skills development through the Women’s Economic Empowerment Digital Literacy (WEE-DL) initiative in countries like Liberia and Moldova.

Local Capacity Strengthening Policy: Learning and Feedback Forum, October 1-10. Register Now!

Don’t miss the second annual Local Capacity Strengthening (LCS) Policy Learning and Feedback Forum, taking place virtually October 1-10! This is an opportunity to provide candid feedback on the Local Capacity Strengthening Policy and share your ideas for future implementation with USAID. Choose from nine virtual sessions, including one featuring the LLDI team, about resources, evidence-based guidance, innovative practices, and more. All public sessions will include live simultaneous translation into Arabic, French, Kiswahili, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL) and will be recorded and posted on USAID.gov after the event.

DON’T MISS OUT: ASHA’s ANNUAL RFA CLOSES OCTOBER 1

American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA), part of the LFT Hub, is committed to providing assistance to overseas schools, libraries, hospital centers, and centers of excellence. ASHA’s annual request for applications is open now through 4 pm EDT on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Applicants must be U.S.-based nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), including U.S. public colleges and universities. To learn more about this funding opportunity, please review the ASHA RFA “Synopsis” tab on Grants.gov.

NEW CBLD-9 GRAPHIC

Just in time for the LCS Policy Forum, USAID’s Local Capacity Strengthening Policy has released its new graphic explaining the CBLD-9 indicator. The CBLD-9 indicator measures how USAID and its partners help equip local individuals, organizations, and networks to achieve and sustain development results within their local systems.

LAUNCH OF PMI VISION AND GOALS FOR INVESTING LOCALLY

Did you know the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) recently launched its Vision and Goals for Investing Locally? PMI aims to thoughtfully and systematically advance its programs toward local ownership and leadership, and ultimately, greater sustainability of malaria control and elimination efforts. LLDI applauds PMI’s efforts to support localization! Learn more.

SKILLS TRAINING TO SUPPORT LIVELIHOODS IN NEPAL

Through Local Works, USAID/Nepal partnered with the Human Resources Center (HRC) in Bajura to provide skills training, tools, and resources to 300 returnee migrants in Nepal's Bajura District, helping them build their livelihoods after COVID-19. Learn how a low-paid, unskilled carpenter in Nepal leveraged his skills-based training to partner with a furniture making business in Bajura to increase his income in this blog post.

PROMOTING WASTE MANAGEMENT IN KOSOVO

Did you know USAID/Kosovo partnered with Democracy Plus to fund recycling programs in Gracanica, Kosovo through Local Works? Check out USAID/Kosovo’s new infographic to learn more about what this means for both citizens and the environment on Facebook and Instagram.

BUILDING CAPACITY IN AFRICAN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH

African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) and the International Centre for Evaluation and Development (ICED) work with local organizations to strengthen the capacity of African academic networks to implement research and influence policies and systems change in the agricultural industry.
