AC 121-37B - Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program - Hazardous Materials, October 25, 2023. This advisory circular (AC) provides guidance to holders of certificates under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) parts 119 and 125, and foreign air carriers issued operations specifications under 14 CFR part 129 (operators), and part 145 (repair stations) who voluntarily disclose to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) their violation(s) of certain hazardous materials regulations under this voluntary disclosure reporting program (VDRP). This also provides guidance on the process used to submit hazmat-related voluntary disclosures, which is closely aligned with the process used by the FAA’s Flight Standards Service (FS).

CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using Toos Elite Electric Scooters Due to Fire Hazard; Two Deaths Reported

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers about the risk of fire from Toos Elite 60-volt electric scooters. The scooters were sold under the brand-name “Zooz” and “Toos” exclusively in Toos Urban Ride stores in New York and online at https://toos-e.com. CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using their Toos Elite 60-volt scooters.

E-Scooter and E-Bike Injuries Soar: 2022 Injuries Increased Nearly 21%

Fires were a significant hazard across all micromobility devices. CPSC is aware of 19 deaths associated with micromobility device fires from January 1, 2021, through November 28, 2022.

Improving Recycling and Management of Renewable Energy Wastes: Universal Waste Regulations for Solar Panels and Lithium Batteries
EPA is planning to propose new rules to improve the management and recycling of end-of-life solar panels and lithium batteries. EPA is working on a proposal to add hazardous waste solar panels to the universal waste regulations found at Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 273 and to establish a new, distinct category of universal waste specifically tailored to lithium batteries.

USPIS Resource: Prohibited, Restricted, and Non-Mailable Items Web Page

Americans across the United States use the U.S. Mail daily and rely upon the Postal Service to ship numerous types of items for personal and business purposes. However, what people may not know is that certain items and substances should never enter the mail system. These materials are not only considered hazardous but are also illegal to send through the mail. Prohibited, restricted, and non-mailable items include anything containing liquid mercury, fireworks, live ammunition, strike-anywhere matches, explosive or flammable devices, and corrosive or acidic substances and materials, as well as several others.
