Federal Aviation Administration to host Public Workshops on Proposed Air Traffic Improvements for Fort Lauderdale Area Airports
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will host public workshops next week to gather input from residents on proposed improvements to air traffic procedures for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and local general aviation airports.
The South-Central Florida Metroplex will allow the FAA to improve regional traffic flows using the precision of satellite-based navigation. The Metroplex will benefit passengers by creating direct routes, decreasing congestion and improving air traffic flows. It also will enhance safety and efficiency and offer environmental benefits by reducing fuel burn and carbon emissions. For more information, view our videos in English and Spanish.
The sessions will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at these locations:
- April 22 – Old Davie School, 6650 Griffin Road, Davie, 33314
- April 23 – Anne Kolb Nature Center, Mangrove Hall, 751 Sheridan St., Hollywood, 33019
- April 24 – Signature Grand, 6900 State Road 84, Davie, 33317
- April 25 – David Posnack JCC, 5850 S. Pine Island Road, Davie, 33328
The agency will share preliminary designs of the air traffic procedures and answer questions in English and Spanish in an open house format. We will accept written comments at the workshops and from April 22 to May 25 at a link on this webpage: Community Involvement South-Central Florida.
The FAA plans to begin an environmental review of the procedures in Summer 2019 We will offer the public the opportunity to comment on the proposals again during the environmental process. We anticipate completing the environmental review in 2020, and expect to implement the new procedures in 2021 to the extent supported by the environmental findings.
