Apply by May 17 for $24 Million in New P2 Grant Opportunities

EPA has announced two Notices of Funding Opportunities for $24 million in P2 grants to support states, U.S. territories and Tribes in providing technical assistance to businesses to develop and adopt P2 practices.

  • $14 million P2 grant opportunity: Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this opportunity has no matching requirement and will be fully funded at the time grants are awarded. The maximum amount of each grant is $350,000.  
  • $9.94 million P2 grant opportunity: Funded through the traditional P2 grants program, this opportunity includes a cost share/match requirement of fifty percent and funding is over a two-year cycle. Individual grant awards up to $700,000 for the two-year funding period.

Second Webinar in New P2 Series: April 10

Join Jennie Romer, EPA Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pollution Prevention, for a webinar series on the second Wednesday of every month through August to hear from business owners, P2 grantees and other experts about innovations and successes in implementing source reduction strategies.

The next webinar in the series will examine the range of support from EPA and elsewhere for expanding reusable food service ware. Hear how EPA is supporting businesses and nonprofit organizations to incorporate reusable food service ware into their operations and how sports and entertainment venues are replacing single-use plastic with reusables.

Submit Comments by April 4 on Draft Criteria to Improve Carbon Emissions Reporting of Construction Materials Under New Label Program

EPA is now accepting comment on its draft criteria for Product Category Rules (PCRs) in support of a new label for more climate-friendly construction materials and products as part of the $100 million Label Program for Low Embodied Carbon Construction Materials created under the Inflation Reduction Act. PCRs are guidelines for developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which communicate environmental impacts of products, and will be used to determine a product’s eligibility for the new label.

Apply by April 15 for Regional Source Reduction Assistance Grant Opportunities Totaling $1.5 Million

Non-profit organizations, Tribes, and state and local governments within EPA Regions 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 have until April 15 to apply for an EPA Source Reduction Assistance grant. EPA is particularly interested in receiving applications for projects in that address environmental justice and climate change. Under this grant opportunity, EPA anticipates awarding up to 27 awards ranging from $40,000 to $240,000, with up to a total of $1.5 million in federal funds available across the participating EPA Regions. Applications require a cost share or match of 5 percent of the federal funds requested. Applications accepted through April 15, 2024.

EPA Issues Training Requirement for All New Grant Applicants and Recipients

EPA’s Office of Grants and Debarment has announced a new training requirement to ensure new applicants for EPA grants, including P2 grants, are knowledgeable of grants application guidelines, budget formulation, and overall grants management regulations, policies, and procedures. Starting on March 4, 2024, all new applicants and recipients must complete EPA Grants Management Training for Applicants and Recipients and How to Develop a Budget before an applicant receives its first EPA award.

New Research Funding Opportunity: Advancing Sustainable Chemistry

EPA’s Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program is accepting applications for funding for research on sustainable chemical products and processes that are both energy and economically efficient, ensure feedstocks are optimized and provide society with chemicals and manufacturing processes that are less harmful to human health. Register for a webinar on April 4 from 2-3 p.m. on the objectives, research areas, and eligibility requirements within the funding opportunity. Applications accepted through May 29, 2024.

Regional P2 Award Applications Open on April 8

Shine a light on pollution prevention accomplishments and best practices at companies in EPA Regions 4, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 by applying for a Regional P2 Award. These annual awards recognize companies that have implemented P2 projects or process improvements at their facilities. Eligible applicants include nonprofit and for-profit companies, entities, and Tribal businesses, including companies assisted by EPA P2 grant recipients.
