EPA Launches New Webpage on its Engagement in Sustainability Standards

A new webpage from EPA’s Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) program focuses on how it participates in the development and update of environmental performance standards. It also has information on the importance and benefits of using these types of standards as well as examples of sustainability criteria the program has helped shape. The EPP program helps U.S. federal government purchasers utilize private sector standards and ecolabels to identify and procure environmentally preferable products and services.

New EPA Website Covers EPA’s Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards

EPA has launched a new website on how the Agency uses Voluntary Consensus Standards (VCS) which are technical documents, such as test methods, specifications, and terminology. Use of standards in regulation, voluntary programs, research, and other activities helps the agency achieve robust engagement with industry, academia, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and others. The new website includes the laws and policies that guide EPA’s use of VCS as well as examples and case studies of how the Agency has used VCS, for instance in the creation of standards to assess greenhouse gasses from transportation.
