Update from EPA Region 2: Erie County and Western New York Sustainable Business Roundtable
The Erie County and Western New York Sustainable Business Roundtable (SBR), an EPA Pollution Prevention grantee, is making great strides in its efforts to get local businesses interested in implementing pollution prevention strategies. Membership of the WNY Clean Production Leaders Project Group, a leadership group within the Roundtable, continues to grow with three local businesses, Tapecon, Catholic Health, and Madiba Janitorial, recently joining other members, including the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), M&T Bank, and Green Building Partners.
SBR has also worked to increase the diversity of its membership, implementing a draft Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy last year that is now driving increased recruitment of Minority Owned Businesses Enterprises (MBEs). Because some businesses have been challenged by the cost of membership, particularly as a result of the pandemic, SBR has offered sponsorships to ensure that underrepresented businesses have access to the benefits of sustainability and the SBR business network.
