Letter to Congress from University Cities

Local Leaders,

For those of you that I have not introduced myself to, my name is Abby Bolic and I am the Membership Coordinator for the Utah League of Cities and Towns. The League's Director, Cameron Diehl, wanted me to reach out on behalf of ULCT because you have institutions of higher education in your community and encourage you to reach out to your representatives in regards to the census and COVID-19.

joint letter from International Town & Gown Association (ITGA), National League of Cities (NLC), and International City/County Management Association (ICMA) leadership regarding the Census was sent to U.S. House and Senate leadership earlier this week.

Due to the unique circumstances of COVID-19, large numbers of university communities’ residents were absent on the important day of April 1, because many
student-residents had moved out in March, when universities and colleges closed their campuses. University and college towns face a significant consequence: Because of COVID related events there may be a census undercount which could impact community quality of life for the next decade. We ask for your support to maintain an accurate 2020 Census count and help these communities.

To support and personalize this initiative, the NLC set up an online, editable letter to Congress: https://nlc.quorum.us/campaign/25995/ We ask that you please create a personalized letter and articulate the unique circumstances around the college and university population in your city and send it to your representatives.

Thank You,

The Utah League of Cities and Towns
