Residents' Survey results revealed

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent Residents’ Survey this year.

We received 1,100 responses which is an increase of more than 300 people compared to 2018.

This is the first time we’ve developed and run the survey ourselves and we were able to achieve more views from younger people than in previous years.

Some headline figures are:

  • 81% are satisfied with their local area as a place to live.
  • 71% are satisfied with how we run things.
  • 55% agree that we provide value for money.
  • 47% think we act on the concerns of residents a great deal or a fair amount
  • 87% are satisfied with our parks and open spaces
  • 87% are satisfied with our waste and recycling service
  • 66% are satisfied with our street cleaning and the way we deal with fly-tipping
  • 65% of users are satisfied with our planning and building control services
  • 59% rate us as good or very good.

But how safe people feel in their local area has shown a decline, and people feel that many types of crimes and anti-social behaviour are more of a problem than previously.

The survey answers will be used to help us decide where to focus our resources as we prepare a new council plan for the next four years. This will be published in March 2020 and sets out priority projects designed to tackle key issues facing the district.

It will include such topics as homelessness support, crime, safety, improving local transport options, reducing carbon emissions, keeping the district clean and transforming town centres.
