On the 1 October 2025 autumn/winter opening hours returned to all 11 Recycling Centres in West Sussex.
The opening times for all Recycling Centres will be 9am - 4pm until 31 March 2026. Site opening days also reverted to the autumn/winter opening schedule.
Before visiting any West Sussex Recycling Centre, don't forget you must book a timed slot online through our website. Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance and even on the same day if there is availability.
If a booked slot is no longer needed, please cancel the appointment so that someone else can make use of the available slot. Cancellations are easy and can be done via your confirmation email.
A handy A-Z guide on what can and can’t be recycled at the West Sussex Recycling Centres is available on our website.

Just because Halloween is spooky, doesn't mean it needs to be a waste nightmare. This year, why not follow our top tips for keeping your Halloween low waste but high fun?
Looking for the perfect Halloween costume? Why not check out a charity shop or swap with your friends' children? Halloween costumes often create a lot of waste since they’re usually only worn once.
Decorate low waste! Why not check out some Halloween upcycling ideas instead of spending money? There are loads of ideas online, and they can give your rubbish new meaning. Bonus points if you can still recycle it after it’s been used!
Love your pumpkin! Did you know that 2 in 5 people don’t realise pumpkins are edible? Don’t let your pumpkin go to waste this year. Instead of carving it, try decorating it with a marker to keep it fresh longer. That way, after the spooky season, you can whip up some delicious pumpkin dishes. Check out our video, produced in collaboration with UKHarvest, for some inspiration.
Recycle what you can! Plastic sweet wrappers aren't recyclable, so pop them in your general waste bin or recycle them at your local supermarket. Plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, foil, cans, glass bottles, and jars can be recycled at home.

As part of the 2025–2026 Waste Prevention Community Grant Fund application process, 10 projects were successfully awarded funding to launch their waste prevention initiatives.
Groups located across West Sussex have each been granted up to £5,000 to deliver projects involving reuse, repair, and prevention. These initiatives target a range of household waste streams, including food, textiles, electrical items, and general waste.
Last month, we shared some exciting updates from a few of our successful applicants. This month, we're sharing even more:
Chichester Bike Project
The Chichester Bike Project is making a real difference by hosting weekly workshops for individuals from various organisations, including The Chichester Centre (NHS Foundation) and The Rehabilitation Service.
Participants not only learn valuable bike repair skills but also leave with a refurbished bike, providing them with essential transport for work, social activities, and independence. The workshops foster community, skill-building, and sustainability all in one.
Tamil Learning Centre
The Tamil Learning Centre has attended various events since receiving their funding, promoting waste prevention and recycling. They’ve been busy handing out leaflets and engaging in conversations with interested members of the Tamil community.
They run ongoing activities every Sunday, educating families and young people about waste prevention and encouraging sustainable practices.
You can see a full list of successful applicants on our website here.
As autumn arrives, the colourful leaves falling in your garden can quickly pile up, disrupting the balance of your compost bin.
If you have the space, instead of letting them go to waste, why not turn them into leafmould, a dark brown, crumbly, nutrient-rich material perfect for improving your soil, conditioning your lawn, and mulching your garden?
Our blog has an easy step-by-step guide on how to make the perfect leafmould, why not check it out here?
Here at West Sussex Recycles, we are passionate about reducing waste and encouraging recycling! That's why over on our social media channels, we post multiple times a week, featuring fun facts and the latest updates. Why not join our community, keep up to date, and share your top tips on waste prevention and recycling?
Throughout West Sussex, we are proud to work alongside a team of passionate waste prevention and recycling volunteers. They attend public and private events to promote waste prevention, reuse, and recycling, and are eager to answer questions about the county's recycling services and waste reduction initiatives.
In addition to the public events listed below, we are participating in numerous privately hosted talks and events for local community groups, schools, and other organisations. If you would like our team to give a talk, visit your school, attend an event, or if you would like more information, please contact us at: waste.prevention@westsussex.gov.uk.
We also support our partners at the district and borough councils with community outreach in selected areas, engaging residents on both recycling and waste prevention topics.
