WSCC’s Community Safety and Wellbeing are undertaking a Training Needs Assessment and would really appreciate your feedback on the current training they offer (Online Safety, Modern Slavery, Criminal Exploitation, County Lines, Prevent and Recognising Racism).

They want to ensure their offer is relevant, accessible and meets your needs. They also want to better understand the training needs of organisations and services relating to these subject matters so they can adapt their offer accordingly.

The survey is available now and can be accessed online until March 17^th via the link below. It will take about 10 minutes to complete, and they will share results with all respondents.

The Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is promoting their first online training course on Identifying and responding to intra-familial child sexual abuse and it is now available to take bookings.

Domestic Abuse Webinar

Date/Time - Thursday 9th March / 12.30 to 13.30

This event will address the key messages arising from the Panel’s briefing paper on domestic abuse, published in September 2022. The session will focus on the most common themes that emerged in multi-agency safeguarding practice with children who are victims of domestic abuse. It will consider four core practice principles in work with children and young people, as well as their families and communities.  Team managers and senior leadership within key organisations are encouraged to attend to discuss the recommendations arising from the analysis.

Bruising in Non-Mobile Infants Webinar 

Date/Time - Thursday 30th March, 12.30 to 13.30

This event will consider the key messages arising from the Panel’s briefing paper on bruising in non-mobile infants, published in September 2022, with a focus on the published evidence and current guidance. Senior leadership across health, policing and children’s social care are encouraged to attend, particularly those involved in child protection medicals, to discuss the Panel’s recommendations about reviewing current local policies to reflect the latest evidence.

In December 2021 the ESSCP Case Review
Group asked agencies to undertake a ‘rapid
review’ of information they held about Child 1.
The rapid review was initiated following Child
1’s mother being charged with their murder.
Child 1 required 24 hour care as their health needs were so complex. Child 1 was admitted to hospital a week before their death. Blood samples, taken during Child 1’s stay in hospital, and following their death showed levels of a non-prescribed drug that contributed to the cause of death.

The aim of this Practice Guidance is to support workers in keeping children safe from sexual abuse and to help reduce the impact of it when it has happened. There are excellent resources available to workers online and this Practice Guidance will reference where to find them as hyperlinks.
This Practice Guidance is designed to be accessible and brief and as such does not cover all the elements of sexual harm. West Sussex works under a local framework called the Pan Sussex Child Protection and Safeguarding Procedures. In responding to concerns about sexual harm workers should always consult with these procedures, alongside this Practice Guidance.
