Elective Home Education (EHE) was identified as a priority in all three areas of Sussex due to the increase in numbers of children being EHE since the COVID-19 Pandemic began.
In April 2022 the three Safeguarding Children Partnership’s across Sussex undertook an audit of 18 children (six in each area) aged 8 to 16 years old (Key Stages 2, 3 and 4), who were EHE and who had recent multi-agency safeguarding involvement through Early Help, Child in Need or Child Protection planning. These briefings set out the key learning for West Sussex professionals coming out of this audit. To read the Learning Briefing in full click on the links below -

Mental Health Initiative of the Year Winner -Sussex Health and Care Partnership: Operation Warren - Responding to Children and Young People’s Mental Health -
West Sussex has seen an increase in completed suicides in young people, which required a multi-agency coordinated response. Operation Warren was established with the project vision to ensure a seamless multi-agency response to prevent further child deaths. The team brings together professionals from health, social care and charitable organisations to respond to concerns which could point to potential suicide or self-harm. Operation Warren has two distinct functions: first, identification and planning by a triage team, and second, support and intervention delivered to educational establishments by a dedicated school’s team.
The judges said the service response was proactive and adopted an integrated approach that is saving lives.
