This message provides an important update about the COVID-19 vaccination programme. It is aimed at eligible health and social care staff who work in Adults and Health Services (including Public Health) and Children, Young People and Learning Service (Social Care, including Early Help.)
This important update includes the following information:
- Getting your second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
- Staff who are still waiting for their second dose vaccinations from Leacroft and Saxonbrook GP surgeries in Crawley
1. Getting your second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
While the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine gives a good immunity to the virus, two doses are needed to have the best chance of full protection. Second doses are being scheduled up to twelve weeks after the first. It is really important that people get both doses to get the greatest benefit from the vaccine.
Most eligible health and social care workers have already booked their second dose, usually at the same time they booked or attended their first dose.
Second doses must be delivered by the same vaccination service that delivered the first dose.
When you attend your second dose you must take photo ID to prove your identity. Please also take your NHS number if you have it, as this will make the appointment quicker and easier.
Please attend your second dose appointment. Rescheduling of second dose appointments can only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
If you’ve had your first dose but do not have an appointment for your second dose, please visit the Sussex Health and Care Partnership website for further information:

2. Second dose vaccinations from Leacroft and Saxonbrook GP surgeries in Crawley
Many staff from the county council attended Leacroft or Saxonbook GP surgeries in Crawley for their first dose vaccinations.
If you attended one of these surgeries on one of the dates below, AND you have still not heard when your second dose appointment will be, please email vaccination@westsussex.gov.uk immediately with the following information and we will provide this to the NHS so they can contact you with appointment details:
- NAME
- MOBILE NUMBER
- DATE OF YOUR FIRST DOSE VACCINE
- WHICH SURGERY YOU ATTENDED
- Your NHS NUMBER (if you have it)
We have been told that the dates for these surgeries to give second doses is as follows:
Saxonbrook – If you had your first dose vaccine on 23 or 24 December 2020 – your second dose will be given on 11 March 2021.
Leacroft – if you had your first dose vaccine between 29 – 31 December 2020 – your second dose will be given between 17-19 March.
Please make a note of these dates to ensure you can make these appointments, and give us the above information so we can ensure you are booked in. We hope to get confirmation of further deliveries for dates beyond this this week.
Still need your first COVID-19 vaccine dose?
If you have not yet had your first dose vaccination you can still access the vaccine via the NHS booking service website or by calling 119.
Full details of eligible workers are set out in the Government’s ‘Green Book’ (see page 11). The NHS vaccination centres will only vaccinate people who are eligible.
Don’t forget follow government guidance once you’ve had your vaccination
Whilst having the full course of the vaccine will reduce the chance of you suffering from COVID-19, you may still be at risk of catching it and spreading it to other people. Therefore, it is important that everyone continues to follow current government guidance around delivering care and support and follows current advice to stay safe.
