Celebrate VE Day with us!

VE Day in Lyminster

This year Friday 8 May marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day and the end of World War Two in Europe.

However you choose to celebrate VE Day at home, our VE Day 75 page has a wide range of resources including photographs, audio clips from World War Two veterans, songs to sing along to, an eBook list, newspaper reports of the day, plus links to information from other organisations.

If you have any queries on VE Day or WW2, or any other topic, why not Ask a Librarian? We'd love to hear from you!

Singing is good for the mind, body and soul!

Our talented staff have been busy during lockdown and some of us have been recording Melody for the Mind songs for our website. We've even included a special rendition of “We’ll meet again”, ready for the Singalong Celebration for the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8 May.

Why not have a look so that you can join in? And don't forget to keep checking back - we'll be adding new songs soon.

Did you spend Friday in your pyjamas?

We bet you did! We’d like to say a big Thank you to all the families who joined us in celebrating BookTrust’s Pyjamarama event last Friday – we had a blast! If you missed it, grab your teddies and catch up with our live-streamed Rhyme Time Online.

Did you know that there’s now a brand new Facebook group for families? Why not come and join us at West Sussex Libraries - Family Corner? It's a place where the whole family can come together to share stories, sing songs and enjoy all that libraries have to offer.

We’ve already started sharing some of the great resources available on our virtual library hub for families - all accessible from home. There are rhymes and stories online, as well as children’s and teenage eBooks, eAudiobooks and eComics, plus handy help for home learning.

We’re also keen to share links to other reading-related activities so that your family can benefit from all the wonderful offerings out there from authors, illustrators and publishers!

Why it helps when you "return" an eBook early

Books fly out of tablet

If you use our eLibrary you might currently be waiting for an eBook or eAudiobook that is on ‘hold’.

That is because most of our eBooks are single copies so, as soon as a book is returned, it moves on to the next person on the list.

Please do return your book when you finish it - there’s no need to wait until it expires. Our eBooks are getting more popular and we have lots of new borrowers, so every return helps fellow readers!

And remember, if you have any problems accessing our eLibrary, just send an email to library.digital@westsussex.gov.uk with your telephone number and a brief outline of the help that you need, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Presenting... Agatha Quiztie!

Agatha Quiztie

We felt it was time to jump on the home quizzing bandwagon, so we present to you... Agatha Quiztie!

There are five rounds of literary questions for you to challenge yourself at home, or share with friends and family, however you stay in touch.

You can test yourself with anagrams, famous quotes and all things books, but remember... No cheating!

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week

'Kindness’ is the theme for the Mental Health Foundation's Mental Health Awareness Week this year, taking place 18 – 24 May

Have a look at two of our carefully curated virtual library web pages - Wellbeing Resources and Things to do at Home - for ideas to support your own wellbeing and those around you.

As an act of kindness, why not pass these on? You could simply forward this email to let someone know you’re thinking of them.
