Exceptional People in Care (EPIC) Awards

The EPIC Awards 2019 are coming to K2 in Crawley, 11-1pm on Saturday 28 September 2019! Thank you to all those of you that have nominated so far.

We know that all our young people in care and care leavers deserve to be recognised for their personal achievements, no matter how small they may seem to others.

Have you nominated yet? There's still time!

The theme for the EPIC Awards 2019 has been decided by our children in care and care leavers. This year, our theme is... MUSIC FESTIVAL!

In addition, if you know a famous person that the young people will recognise who could do a short video clip for the day, let us know at epic.awards@westsussex.gov.uk.

Please share this with your colleagues and encourage them to comment on the proposals.  The consultation ends Friday 14 June 2019.

For Easy Read versions, click on the link above and you will see all attachments at the bottom of the page.

The draft SEND and Inclusion Strategy has been co-produced during the spring term 2019, with a wide representation of stakeholders – more than 150 people have participated in the development workshops and events. The stakeholders have included parent carers, young people, education providers and other professionals from across social care, health and education. Together, we have identified the key work priority areas which are outlined in the strategy. This draft strategy is a starting point that will be refined and further developed in response to feedback.

Transitions are a locus of anxiety for children and young people, especially those facing uncertain futures or those with additional needs. Against the backdrop of funding cuts and the closure of vital services, good transitions for children and young people are needed
more than ever, and can make a real difference to outcomes and life prospects for the most vulnerable in society. We are holding our 2019 conference which is always a lovely day, with a mix of academic and practitioner speakers, tasty food and a lively atmosphere; and this year, tickets are only £85!" All information can be found here

Break 4 Change

This programme supports parents/carer’s and young people in building healthy relationships. The programme aims to help the family break patterns where a young person in the home is:

  • Controlling the home environment
  • Being violent or aggressive towards the parent
  • Putting the parent down
  • Making threats

This is an amazing programme that both child and parent/carer attend at the same time. Young people need to be aged 13 – 18 years in order to access the project. The next Project will be run from The Glynn Owen Youth Centre, Worthing from Tuesday 24 September 2019.

For further information or to refer a family, please contact Sarah Field / 07540 672009.
