Preparing to Adulthood

Whilst reviewing and developing the West Sussex Local Offer we asked you what you thought of the developments of the Local Offer. 

You said you wanted "more information available for young adults with special educational needs and or disabilities".

We have therefore:

• created a 'Facebook Group' linked to the West Sussex Local Offer facebook page. The group is public and managed by parent carers, who are members of the West Sussex Parent Carer Forum, and Local Offer Officer;
• created a scenario on the homepage of our Local Offer called 'Preparing for Adulthood';
• split the 'Moving to Adult Life' filter on the Local Offer to the varying strands of the pathway: 'Community Inclusion'; Employment; 'Health and wellbeing'; 'Independent Living' (final descriptions of filters are needed);
• created a service summary card for 'Life Long Services';
• simplified the information pages on the West Sussex Local Offer (we need to work on reviewing these);
• added a new page 'Post-16 SEND Transport to school/college'; and
• continue to work with the West Sussex Parent Carer Forum in promoting 'Wiki's' for young people. Wikis could be a very useful tool for all children, young people and adults which could be used to support transitions. 

Other updates:

• Wellspring West Sussex have published a newsletter on transitions; and
• Reaching Families West Sussex have launched a new edition of their book 'Making Sense of it All' The first edition of the book was published in May 2016. A second edition is now available in paperback and PDF format, with the ebook version coming very soon. If you would like a paperback copy of either guide, or would prefer to download the PDF version, then please visit our publications page and follow the instructions to order on the right hand side of the page.
• Council for Disabled Children: Attitudes on Public Transport - This week, Amba from the FLARE disabled children and young people's group gives her thoughts on how attitudes makes all the difference to her use of public transport.
• Council for Disabled Children have produced information in regarding to advice on Education, Health and Care Plans for young people planning for their transition to adulthood.
