FIFA World Cup ‘Kick It Out’ Hate awareness
The
World Cup is here and whether you love or loathe football it will be hard not
to get caught up in the fervour surrounding the competition. Evidence
shows that during high profile sporting events certain crimes will increase,
including Hate Crime.
To
raise awareness of Hate Crime and how to report it during the World Cup period,
the Community Safety and Well-being team have produced some resources,
including posters and beer mats with key messages and information on them which
will be displayed at pubs and clubs and other public venues before and during
the event. Our message is help others to be aware of and discourage hate
of any kind, and ‘if you see it, report it’.

 Young
carers volunteers receive Queen's Award
Our
young carers volunteers have won a hugely prestigious Queen’s Award, the
highest possible recognition for people giving their time and skills for free
to help others.
“It’s
a challenge but extremely rewarding to be able to help someone along their path
and knowing the knowledge I’m passing on will not only help them now but also
in the future.” Ian Lockwood, volunteer mentor.

The gift of story time with dad this Fathers’ Day
In Spring 2017, Home-Start Arun, Worthing & Adur launched their exciting new initiative to support dads to bond well with their children using reading – Fathers Reading Every Day: FRED. The last 12 months have been successful with 21 dads engaging with the programme and 92% seeing the benefits of FRED in their family.
FRED is a focussed and practical 4-week programme which demonstrates the wider benefits of reading regularly to babies and young children. Reading enables closeness between parent and child, strengthens the bond and is a precious time in the day for the family to take a breather and enjoy stories. Read more here
