Author compliments West Sussex Social Services in Sunday Times

Girl with Dove, A Life Built by Books by Sally Bayley

The book itself is a mix between fact and fiction as a girl tells her life story as she remembers it. Within the review, she mentions how she admitted herself to care and how she is the first person from the West Sussex care service to have gone on to university. There is also a really lovely description of her local library and social services.

Sally Bayley was already an avid reader at the age of four, and found her escape from her traumatic family life in Littlehampton Town Library, who she thanks in her memoir for “providing me with a free education from the ages of five to 15”. One other key institution for Bayley was the West Sussex Social Services department, who not only accepted her when she wanted to leave her family, but also supported her financially during her first years at Oxford.
