New Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Union (LGBTU) Youth Support Project
Allsorts Youth Project is delighted to announce a new LGBTU Youth Support Project in West Sussex funded by West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Groups. The project will start delivery in May in Horsham, followed shortly after by a delivery point in the south of the county.
After consulting with the community of LGBT young people and stakeholders in West Sussex, we heard about a lack of local support, with Brighton being the only provision available in Sussex. The West Sussex pilot project is set up in response to a need for more LGBTU support and awareness in the West Sussex area.
For more information, visit their website, phone 01273 721211 / 07771 895343 or email: youth@allsortswest.org.uk. Alternatively, check out their leaflet 1 and leaflet 2.

Jellyfish has impact on young people’s brains!
This
picture shows how Jellyfish, a Youth Interventions course, has
helped a group of 13-17 year olds by focusing on independence skills,
empowerment and building self-esteem and confidence.
Read
this moving story from Mid-Sussex Hub, 'One Girl and her horse', sharing how Jellyfish
helped.

Gold
Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Presentation at Buckingham Palace!
Over
1450 Gold achievers from all over the County were invited to Buckingham Palace
on Wednesday 24 May.
11
young people from West Sussex attended, including Max Higdon, one of the
gold achievers (pictured with his mother and WSCC DofE Officer).
Gold
certificates were presented by HRH Sophie Countess of Wessex. She spent a long
time talking to the young people about their DofE experiences and was
especially interested to hear what they had been doing for their volunteering
sections.

Put the Kettle On!
Annie MacIver and her SMT
will be visiting services and teams on the 3 July. There are no formal
arrangements; they will simply pop in to meet teams and get involved with
whatever is happening on the day. If they arrive in your area, please welcome them
and ‘put the kettle on!’ They want to see what is happening in services on a
normal day and mix with your team, so do give them all the support they need.
 Inclusive Teen Gym
Inclusive Teen Gym, funded by Short Breaks, is aimed at teenagers aged 14-18 who have a disability. On the scheme the participants are entitled to 12 one hour gym sessions, 4 of which are with a Personal Trainer, at a cost of £5 each. They will be partnered with a buddy of similar age who will be able to offer support and will complete the workout session at the same time. They believe access to their facilities can help improve the mental and physical health of those participating.
To qualify for West Sussex County Council Short Breaks schemes clients must be receiving the middle or higher rate of DLA. View their poster for more information.

 Boom!
Credit Union
WSCC worked with key stakeholders
and partners to develop the West Sussex Credit Union which opened in October
2008. The Credit Union, now called Boom! Credit Union is like a bank in
that it lends to borrowers and looks after money for savers. Unlike a bank it
does not operate to make a profit! It is a co-operative which is owned by
its members.

out more on their website, check out their short video or read their 2 page leaflet.
