Think Family and Early Help Performance

1) Within Phase 2 of the National Programme (since Sept 2014) we have opened 3,001 qualifying cases – i.e. we have or are working with 3,001 vulnerable families with multiple, complex needs.

2) We are currently achieving measurable improvements in the lives of 81% of the families we are working with (through analysis of their ‘distance travelled’).

3) We have identified in excess of 750 families turned around against national criteria, working towards our 4,000 target by 2020.

Don't forget to have your say!

WSCC

What Matters to You shapes what we do for you!

West Sussex County Council provides more than £500 million pounds worth of services to over 820,000 residents, 365 days a year.

From 5 July to 30 August, we want to hear the public’s opinions on what is important to them, their community and the future of West Sussex. We’re appealing to all corners of the county, from residents and businesses to those working in the voluntary and community sectors, to help us shape service delivery as well as our budget.

If you’re a resident please fill it in and share it with friends, family and neighbours. If you have a customer/client contact list please promote and encourage people to take part. Have your say and complete the survey today.

New direction for Parent Volunteer Programme

Children and Family Centres across West Sussex have refocused the support offered to parents who want to get back into work or training.

The new programme is open to any parent with a child under the age of 11, who lives in West Sussex. Parents can access a range of volunteering placements both within the Children and Family Centres and in the local community.

Volunteering opportunities offer parents encouragement to improve their aspirations, personal skills, self-confidence, employability and economic wellbeing.

If you are working with someone who you think might benefit from this programme contact your local Children and Family Centre.

West Sussex Early Years Needs Assessment

WS EYN's Assessment

The West Sussex Early Years Needs Assessment has now been published. The report, written by the Public Health and Social Research Unit, is part of the West Sussex Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA).

Experiences in the early years of life are crucial for long-term physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing and can have lifelong consequences. The purpose of this needs assessment was to identify whether the needs of young children (from conception to age five) and their families are currently being met in West Sussex, to provide recommendations based on what is working well, as well as what could be improved.

A ‘good start’ for all children will improve health, social, educational and economic outcomes in West Sussex, and will act to reduce inequalities and increase social mobility within the population.

Half of HolistiX Contact Numbers Do Not Work

The Police have conducted some independent work on families through direct contact on mobile numbers provided from the HolistiX database. It transpires that over half the numbers are in fact not contactable, either not being answered or no longer in use. If you are working with families, please can you ensure that mobile numbers are current on the system and updated at various points of service intervention.

Parents 4 Parents

P4P

Parents 4 Parents is a newly established parent led peer support group. The group is free, open to all parents and provides a non-judgemental environment for parents; where parents can meet other parents with lived experience of daily parenting challenges as well as making local connections. The project resulted from feedback during a co-design review where parents who had accessed our care services said that they wanted timely and non-judgemental support. Our response was to co-design a solution with local parents to ensure their insights shaped the delivery of our project.

The core elements of Parents for Parents include fortnightly group and a Facebook Group. Both elements are led by parent volunteers who are supported by WSCC officers to ensure the project is delivered safely.

Sessions are fortnightly on Wednesday nights between 7-9pm at the Treehouse CFC.

If you know a parent who would benefit from the support Parents 4 Parents or you have any questions please contact us or visit our Facebook Page.

Baby Grow with Five to Thrive

Five to Thrive Blocks

Your child's body grows better when you give the child good food. Your child's brain grows better when you do five simple things.

Respond * Cuddle * Relax * Play * Talk

Cuddle: All sorts of touch can be included in the concept of ‘cuddle’: stroking, patting, holding, feeding, hair care, nail care, massage, being carried, holding hands, and many more interactions involving physical contact. Physical contact is essential for healthy brain development, and the second step of the attachment process is physical attunement, in which the bodies of the baby and the parent begin to work together in harmony, with the physiology of each changing to match the other. Read more about baby brain development here.
