Let's Go Green for the New Year!
Here at West Berkshire Council we would like to wish all our residents a Happy New Year and take the opportunity to share with you our tops tips for waste reduction and recycling into the New Year.
|
|
It is estimated nearly a billion Christmas cards are sent each year in the UK.
Re-use - Hang onto your Christmas cards from this year and cut them into gift tags ready for next year. This will not only save you money but is better for the environment too.
Recycle - The rest of the card can be recycled in your paper and card box. Don’t forget we can’t accept cards with glitter or foil on for recycling.

Please see below our suggestions for green New Year's Resolutions. If everyone made one simple change it can really make a difference.

|
To reduce plastic waste why not try to switch to a shampoo bar as opposed to your normal product. |
Have you got a baby in nappies? Try out re-usable nappies- see our website for more information.
|
|
Look for detergent/laundry products that you can re-fill as opposed to buying a new bottle each time. |
Instead of buying new each time look at options for repairing, upcycling or buying second hand.
|
|
Remember to take a re-usable water bottle or coffee cup with you when you go out. |
For further advice on reducing your waste please see our website.

We all need a break over Christmas including our fantastic Veolia collection crews, so we will be collecting your recycling and rubbish on different days to normal over Christmas and New Year.
You should have received a bin hanger with the revised collection dates but just in case you need a reminder, we've included them below. You can also find collection day information online.
Unfortunately we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to suspend all garden and food waste collections from Tuesday 28 December 2021 until Saturday 8 January 2022 inclusive. All services will resume as normal from Monday 10 January 2022.

|
Real Christmas trees will be collected on your first scheduled garden/food waste collection in January once the service has resumed. Please make sure you remove any lights, decorations and pots. Trees over 4ft must be cut in half.
You don't need a garden waste subscription to recycle your real Christmas tree, just pop it out with your recycling!
Please don't leave your tree by your recycling if you do not want us to collect it!
Christmas trees are composted at our facility in Padworth.
