Our Climate Change Bond, which launched last July, is helping us deliver a number of "green" schemes as part of our Environment Strategy. The first of its kind in the UK, the £1m Community Municipal Investment fund offers residents and community groups an opportunity to invest directly with us to help build a greener future for the district.
Projects include tree planting, habitat creation and restoration, solar installations, upgrade to the Thatcham to Brimpton towpath, updating traffic lights to LEDs, and more.
Over 100 people who invested in the ground-breaking Climate Change Bond liked the projects so much they have donated their interest back to the scheme. The additional funds are being used to support our project with our partner Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) to introduce wildflower verges on roads in the district.

Supporting our communities through Covid-19
We are incredibly proud of the way local people have responded to the pandemic, and we are honoured to have played our part in supporting local communities.
From helping to coordinate the community response, to supporting schools, businesses and care homes, we’ve been working hard throughout the pandemic.
We have created an e-booklet that reflects on our contribution to the district’s response and looks ahead to our plan for recovery.
Get your free rapid Covid-19 tests (lateral flow tests)
Help us stop the spread of Covid-19 by getting tested twice week, three to four days apart. Our community testing sites are open to anyone who lives and works in West Berkshire. No appointment is needed. Alternatively, you can collect free home testing kits - including from our community test sites, our mobile collect van and via participating pharmacies.
People aged 42 or over can now book their Covid vaccine
If you are aged 42 or over, or if you will turn 42 before 1 July 2021, you can now book your Covid vaccination online. If you've already booked a vaccination appointment through a GP or local NHS, you do not need to book again using this service.
We are developing an improvement plan for Public Rights of Way across West Berkshire. We welcome your ideas for the plan in order to ensure that it meets the needs of residents.
Please take our online survey to let us know about your experience of using our Public Rights of Way. We are also keen to learn if you've encountered any problems using Public Rights of Way and whether your concerns were addressed.
The survey closes on 30 May 2021.
