Message from Brenda Wile Deputy Director of Education

Dear Colleague,

I hope you have had some time over the summer to relax, rejuvenate and spend quality time with family and friends. The break passes very quickly and before we know it pupils will be welcomed back by you and your staff for what will no doubt be a very busy school year.

If you have forwarded to us already your provisional examination results, thank you so much.  It’s great to hear of your students’ successes.  If we haven’t yet been sent your data, I’d be grateful if you could share this as soon as possible.  Of course the information will remain confidential until validated and publicly available, but it does help us with our planning to support your school appropriately over the coming year.

Please find attached a flyer for an event we are very excited to advertise, where workshops on key issues and challenges around Inclusion will take place as well as opportunities for networking, information sharing and discussion will be available.

We are delighted to welcome Jay Blades MBE to open the event as a highly regarded TV and media personality, who, as an adolescent, struggled in school, was excluded due to lack of understanding and awareness of the challenges he faced and who has worked tirelessly to achieve the success he enjoys.  Jay is a great advocate for all young people who may face discrimination due to disadvantage or other vulnerabilities and he is committed to supporting Wolverhampton, in whatever ways he can to promote inclusive practices in learning environments.

Workshops will cover a range of content across all aspects of Inclusion and I know that you will benefit from attending the event.  One place is free to each school, setting or organisation wishing to attend, with additional places available to be purchased at only £25 per head.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided through the day and a prize draw will be held at the end of the day with donations received from market place stall holders.

Please book early to secure your place as these are limited, and will be offered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

Finally, I wish you a very rewarding and successful year ahead and look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible in person over the coming months.
