Message from Phil Leivers - Head of Education Excellence

Dear Colleagues,

Given the rapidly changing national response to the Covid -19 Omicron variant we have decided to hold an engagement session on Friday 3 December 11.30 – 12.30pm. This will allow Public Health to give us a local update, for us to consider and any revisions to our end of term events guidance, and preparations for the new term in January.

In the meantime, thank you for your continued support in trying to minimise any risks in schools and settings.

Best wishes,

Phil

Early Years

CO2 Monitor Rollout for Early Years

On 21 August, the Department for Education (DfE) announced that it is providing CO2 monitors to state-funded education settings, including early years providers, backed by £25 million in government funding. The new monitors will enable staff to identify areas where ventilation needs to be improved and provide reassurance that existing ventilation measures are working, helping balance the need for good ventilation with keeping rooms warm.

As the monitors are portable, settings will be able to move them around to test all their rooms, starting with areas they suspect may be poorly ventilated.

Monitors are currently being dispatched to early years providers. Settings will receive an email directly from our supplier, once their monitor allocation is dispatched. We expect all deliveries to have taken place by the end of the Autumn term. DfE has also produced a ‘how to’ guide on using CO2 monitors in education and childcare settings, also available on the Google drive.

If settings have any further queries about their DfE issued CO2 monitor(s) call the DfE COVID-19 helpline on 0800 046 8687.

Public Health

Repeated: Health Related Behaviour Survey (HRBS) 2022

Your school is warmly invited to participate in the Health Related Behaviour Survey (HRBS) 2022 which will be open during spring term 2022.

City of Wolverhampton Council has conducted the Health Related Behaviour Survey (HRBS) with Wolverhampton schools every other year since 2006 (except 2020). In the past, HRBS data has helped schools with their school improvement, curriculum and whole school planning. It has also helped the City council to identify need and plan services for the wellbeing of its young population.

Pupils in years 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 have always taken part in the survey. Additionally, for 2022, students in Key Stage 5 (particularly Year 12) are invited to participate.

Your school can register to participate in HRBS 2022 with our survey provider, SHEU, by using the following link:  http://sheu.org.uk/registerw

Instructions and support will be provided to help schools to administer the anonymous online survey. In the summer term, participating schools will receive a detailed report of their school’s results.

Please find attached a letter for further information and the HRBS 2018 executive report for reference.
