Dear Colleagues,
To coincide with Black History Month schools across Wolverhampton have been presented with a free copy of a landmark book co-written by Wolverhampton born author Patrick Vernon which honours the achievements of Black people throughout history. 100 Great Black Britons celebrates the lives, stories and contributions of key Black British individuals over the past few centuries.
Among those featured are pioneering nurse and heroine of the Crimean War Mary Seacole, artist and film director Steve McQueen, rapper Stormzy, Booker prize-winning author Bernardine Evaristo, Formula One megastar Lewis Hamilton, comedian Lenny Henry and Wolverhampton singing sensation Beverley Knight.
The City of Wolverhampton Council and the Wolverhampton, Bilston and District Trades Union Council supported a national campaign by Yvonne Davis, a retired primary school headteacher from Wolverhampton, to get books into every school in Britain by purchasing a copy for each of the city's schools and libraries, and they have now been distributed to schools.
Hopefully you have received the book and will consider using in assemblies etc.
Best wishes,
Phil

The DfE started this data collection last year as part of the early response to the pandemic. The data you have provided has been central to informing the government COVID response on Early Years.
The DfE are requesting attendance data for this week and this must be reported on Thursday 14 October. We are asking for your attendance figure for Tuesday 12 October, how many children you were expecting and how many children actually attended.
Method of collection as follows:
-
Nursery schools and Schools with a nursery class please reply to the email sent to you from the research and assessment team
-
Private nursery settings a member of the Early Years Team will call you to collect your figures, due to a problem with the survey.
-
Childminders can you please email or text your attendance figure to your Quality and Access Officer, due to a problem with the survey.
It is really important that we have an accurate picture of the number of children attending early years provision across the city, thank you again for your continued support with this.
