Ambitious plans for a major multi-million-pound city living development at the heart of City of Wolverhampton have this week been announced at MIPIM.
The Brewers Yard scheme is proposed for ten acres of brownfield land neighbouring University of Wolverhampton’s Springfield Campus.
It will see a mixture of 1,100 city houses and apartments, and 60,000 sq ft of new retail and commercial space, designed by award-winning Glancy Nicholls Architects. Read more...

 i54 deal for leading site machinery company
One of the country’s leading site machinery businesses has agreed to acquire the flagship site at i54 adjacent to Jaguar Land Rover at Junction 2 of the M54.
The landmark site will provide over 60,000 sq ft of manufacturing and office space for Morris Site Machinery to relocate from its current site just 3 miles away at Four Ashes, into purpose-built premises at i54.
The site machinery business is renowned for its mobile lighting towers, generators, welders, pumps and pressure washers, which it sells worldwide. Read more...
 Work starts on major housing development
Plans to build 420 new homes in the City of Wolverhampton, making it one of the largest developments in the area have turned into action with a start on site on brownfield land in the Black Country.
Bilston Urban Village is part of City of Wolverhampton Council’s multi-million-pound plans to transform land south of Bilston town centre.
A 27-acre site, previously industrial land, is being developed by housebuilder Countryside and will consist of two, three and four-bedroom properties, 192 of which will be available to purchase through Help To Buy.
The development will also include 105 affordable homes being delivered by West Midlands-based Accord Housing Association. Read more... |

 National Brownfield Institute designs unveiled as part of MIPIM presentation
Concept designs have been unveiled for the first time of what the University of Wolverhampton’s new National Brownfield Institute could look like.
The Institute will be home to a state-of-the-art research and innovation centre and will feature commercial testing facilities and lab space.
It will also house a national policy institute which will inform and guide future strategy development around brownfield regeneration, give specialist advice on dealing with contaminated land and repurposing buildings and sites, and look at new and innovative construction methods such as modular housing.  Demolition of former nightclub to pave way for new City Learning Quarter
City of Wolverhampton Council has submitted a planning application to demolish the former Faces nightclub building as part of the ambitious City Learning Quarter scheme.
Current ground-floor tenants of the same premises on the corner of Garrick Street and Bilston Street, Compton Care, have agreed to vacate the building by March 31.
This will pave the way for full demolition works to begin in May and complete towards the end of the summer. Read more...
Wolves at Work has helped the UK’s fastest growing and fifth largest supermarket* recruit 15 Wolverhampton residents into permanent jobs.
The successful applicants have started in their positions at four Aldi stores across the city - Howard Street, Goldthorn Hill Road, Bentley Bridge and Mercury Drive - with roles ranging from Caretaker and Store Assistant to Deputy Store Manager and Store Manager.
The Wolves at Work employment programme, which is run by City of Wolverhampton Council in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), set up information sessions to help generate applications. Read more... |
