idverde is close to completing work on landscaping the open areas of Bilston Urban Village as can be seen from this flythrough footage.

The City of Wolverhampton Council project ties in with the Garden City concept commissioned by the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (BCLEP) and has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

The aim is to improve biodiversity and recreation, with works including the development of a network of paths for walking and cycling, clearance of overgrown trees and shrubs, and fencing to properly define and protect areas.

The new paths provide easy, convenient access from both established and new residential areas to local facilities such as the WV Active Bert Williams Leisure Centre and the extensive range of amenities in the town centre. The new paths will also provide direct pedestrian access to the new Loxdale Primary School, currently being built on site. Watch video...

Hop Pole pub

Regeneration plans will see demolition start in New Year on Hop Pole pub

Demolition of Marston’s Hop Pole pub in Bilston is expected to start in the New Year, with the land earmarked for the enhancement of the town’s outdoor market.

The Market Street pub, which was built in the early 1970s, is on land owned by the council and Marston’s has agreed to surrender its long-term lease.

It sits adjacent to other land in the council’s ownership and will provide the opportunity to enhance links with the bus station and the metro, and potentially create development land at the same time.

The outdoor market will continue to operate during the demolition works.
