City reaps rewards of Wolves promotion party

Tens of thousands of Wolves fans turned out to hail their Championship-winning heroes as the city was overtaken by a sea of gold and black on Bank Holiday Monday (May 7) in an event organised by City of Wolverhampton Council and the club.

The squad showed off the Championship trophy during an open-top bus parade from the city centre to the 'Promotion Party in the Park’ in West Park.

It is estimated the economic benefit to the city from Monday’s event is £1 million.

New market works

Brand new city centre market taking shape

City of Wolverhampton’s new city centre market is expected to open for business on Tuesday, July 17, with an official opening event four days’ later.

The city council is relocating the market from its current Market Square base.

Southside will be its new home, where it will boast 20 cabins and 48 stalls, fronting Cleveland Street. Read more...

Railway station

Subway closure signals final preparations for full station works

From Sunday, May 20, 2018, the pedestrian subway at Wolverhampton Railway Station will be closed until summer 2019, as part of plans to develop a new station building.

The closure will enable demolition of the current station building and a new one to be built adjacent to it.

A recommended, temporary diversion route will be put in place for customers wanting to access the station via Wednesfield Road.

The station works will take place in two phases, with rail services continuing to operate as normal throughout. Read more...

Small site council homes fourth phase works to start during summer 2018

City of Wolverhampton Council has gone out to tender on a £4 million contract for the fourth phase of its successful newbuild council housing programme for small derelict sites. 

The £4 million third phase started in January and will see 26 homes delivered across five sites by a small Midlands contractor, Harper Group PLC, by spring 2019. 

Eight former garage sites have been identified as part of phase four, with works due to start this summer. Read more...
