City of Wolverhampton
Council has secured a £681,000 boost from the European Regional Development
Fund to develop a ‘Garden City’ at Bilston Urban Village.
The Bilston Urban
Village project ties in with the Garden City concept commissioned by the Black
Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
It will see up to
450 homes built by private developers on former brownfield land, connected by
around 14 hectares of land designated for public open space and nature
conservation.

 Thousands enjoy city's festive lights switch-on
Thousands turned out for Wednesday's spectacular Christmas lights switch-on and
firework display in City of Wolverhampton’s Queen Square.
The Free Radio roadshow
provided the entertainment, and families enjoyed a mini-funfair, real reindeer
in Lichfield Street, festive market in Dudley Street, and traditional Christmas music from the Wulfruna
vintage steam organ.
Deputy Mayor of
Wolverhampton, Councillor Phil Page, Mayoress Asha Mattu, stars from this
year’s Grand Theatre pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, children’s picture book
character, The Gruffalo, and British Citizen Youth Award winner, Louis Johnson,
joined Father Christmas to switch on the lights, which was followed by a
spectacular firework display.

Work to start on first WV Living city homes after contractor appointed
WV Living has
appointed a contractor to develop its first homes in the City of Wolverhampton.
Jessup have been
selected to build 52 homes, including 13 affordable homes, on the site of the
former Danesmore Park Primary School.
The development off
Russell Close will be named Danesmore Pastures and will see a collection of
two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom homes for sale.
Hoardings will
shortly go up on site with works to get underway before Christmas and the first
house expected to be up by spring 2018.
It is part of WV
Living’s first phase of delivering more than 1,000 new homes over the next four
years, as the council’s own housing company. Read more...

Building work starts on £6 million logistics centre in Wolverhampton
Building work
is officially underway on the new £6 million DB Cargo UK Logistics Centre in
Wolverhampton – bringing new jobs and investment.
The first mark
in the ground was celebrated with a ceremony attended by council officials,
colleagues and customers yesterday (Thursday).
The new centre
at Knowles Road, off Lower Walsall Street, will increase the site’s
capabilities to handle and store steel coil from 1,380 to 3,325 steel coils,
which is 40,000 tonnes of steel. Read more...
