 Leading expert hails 'green' Wolverhampton
In this edition of re:new we catch up with eminent
environmentalist and TV presenter Chris Baines as he extols the virtues of
Wolverhampton as a green city.
Born in Sheffield, Chris has made Wolverhampton his long-term
home and in this video he outlines just why he sees it as a great place to
live, visit and work.

 'Workbox' goes live to help drive employment
City Wolverhampton
Council and city partners have launched a website to offer residents,
businesses, and providers improved access to skills, training and employment
opportunities.
Employers and
training providers last week gathered at an event at Molineux Stadium to
view and support ‘Workbox’, which will act as a one-stop shop, forming part of
the wider Skills and Employment Action Plan to tackle unemployment in the city.
It will provide
flexible and customised provision to prepare people better for work and
employers will contribute by designing bespoke training to ensure a larger
proportion of people become job ready over time - creating a more reliable

 15,000 Festival of Food & Drink tickets booked
More than 15,000
free tickets have been snapped up for City of Wolverhampton’s inaugural
Festival of Food and Drink.
The weekend
festival on Saturday, July 8 (1pm-8pm) and Sunday 9 (12pm-7pm) is the flagship
event of this year’s packed ‘Visit the City’ programme.
There are less than 5,000

People hit the streets to enjoy city's colourful Wolves in Wolves trail
City of
Wolverhampton has been gripped by wolf fever following the start of the ‘Wolves in
Wolves’ trail on Wednesday.
All 30 wolves are in place at different locations across the city centre, with maps now available to help people hunt them down.
It is the
largest public art event in the city ever, and runs until Sunday, September 24.

Derelict Bell Street properties to make way for regeneration in the city centre
Regeneration plans for City of Wolverhampton’s Southside
area are set to take another step forward with derelict properties on Bell
Street to be demolished.
The council last year purchased numbers 1-5, which sit near
to the Mander Centre car park entrance, and contractors will begin levelling the
buildings in the coming months.
The site will be used for car parking in the interim to
provide additional revenue income to the council ahead of future marketing of
the site for regeneration. Read more...
 Bespoke council homes scheme for wheelchair users is completed
A £2.2 million Care
and Support Specialist Housing (CASSH) scheme to deliver ten bespoke council
houses for families with an adult wheelchair user has been completed.
The council is
eager to ensure people in the City of Wolverhampton live independent lives in
their own homes.
Four
two-and-three-bedroom homes were finished at Lawnside Green, Stowlawn, in July
last year, followed by two three-bedroom bungalows at Fifth Avenue, Low Hill,
in September.
The final phase has
seen four three-bedroom homes recently completed at Dale Street/Russell Street,
Graisley, with the tenants now moving in. Read more... |
