 'Council of the Year' thanks city businesses
City
of Wolverhampton Council would like to thank the city's business community for the important part its strong partnership working contributed to being crowned Council of the Year at the ‘Oscars of
local government’.
The
council was the star of the show at the Municipal Journal (MJ) Awards as it scooped three other awards.
The
MJ Awards are open to all councils across the country and are judged by a panel
of leading experts.
This year City of Wolverhampton
Council was a finalist in seven out of the 14 categories – which was more than
any other council.
As well as winning the top accolade
of Council of the Year, City of Wolverhampton Council also took home Most
Improved Council, Senior Leadership Team of the Year and Excellence in
Governance and Scrutiny.
It was also highly commended in the Impact and Learning
in Children’s Services category.

 Food festival popular as part of 'Visit the City'
Almost 10,000 free
tickets have been snapped up for City of Wolverhampton’s inaugural Festival of
Food and Drink.
The weekend
festival on Saturday, July 8 (1pm-8pm) and Sunday 9 (12pm-7pm) is the flagship
event of this year’s packed ‘Visit the City of Wolverhampton’ programme.
City partners have
also come together to entice residents and visitors with a host of other free
or purse-friendly activities and offers between Friday, June 30 and Sunday,

Alternative Giving Campaign provides help and improves city centre for all
City of
Wolverhampton’s Alternative Giving Campaign has come into focus during Small Charity
Week, which ends tomorrow (Saturday).
The aim is to
highlight the work of the three city charities who benefit from and support the
campaign – P3 Navigator, Wolverhampton Street Pastors and St George’s HUB - and also how it makes the city centre a more welcoming place for visitors.
The Alternative
Giving Campaign encourages people to donate money directly to local
charities set up to support the homeless, rather than giving it directly to someone begging on the city centre

Jobs boost as permission granted to convert Peel Retail Park unit to gym
A further unit on a
gateway retail park has been snapped up as its rejuvenation continues - and it
delivers more jobs to the City of Wolverhampton.
The Peel Centre was
devastated by a major blaze in 2011.
Now, the JD Gyms chain
has been granted planning permission by the council to convert Unit 1, previously
used by JJB Sports, into a gym.
It is investing £2 million
into the Peel Retail Park site off Stafford Street, creating 19 full-time jobs. Read more... |
