Full refurb works to start on city's Civic Halls

Full refurbishment works on Wolverhampton’s Civic Halls will get underway on Monday after City of Wolverhampton Council appointed a contractor.

Enabling works for the £14.4 million refurbishment of the Grade II listed venue were completed last year.

Shaylor Group has now been handed the job of delivering the remainder of the scheme that will see major changes made to the Civic Hall and Wulfrun Hall in phases. Read more and watch video...

Revised opening times for cultural venues

City of Wolverhampton Council has announced the revised hours of four cultural venues based on the results of a five-month public consultation.

The changes relate to Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bantock House Museum (the popular café and park is unaffected), Bilston Craft Gallery and Wolverhampton City Archives, and will come into effect from Monday, February 6.

Following feedback at public meetings and from 735 people through the online survey, the council has adapted its original proposals for the four venues to ensure they are open at times when demand is highest. Read more...

Wolverhampton market to get new home as Westside plans are finalised

City of Wolverhampton market is to get a new long-term home as plans for the £55 million Westside regeneration scheme are finalised.

Its current Market Square location is to be absorbed into the new leisure-led development by preferred developer Urban & Civic.

This will deliver a multi-screen cinema, restaurants, bars, hotel, multi-storey car park, apartments, and public realm, to the heart of the city centre in two phases, over five years.

The market will be relocated to Southside and will front Cleveland Street, providing increased footfall from the Wulfrun Centre and transport Interchange, as well as situating it in a student catchment area. Read more...
