Developers eager to deliver Bilston Urban Village homes

A host of residential developers are queuing up to build homes on the Bilston Urban Village site.

City of Wolverhampton Council has now completed its extensive advanced works programme – and has received more than ten expressions of interest.

It hopes to make a final decision in the autumn on who will develop the 27 acres of land available. Watch video... 

New railway station

Plans submitted for new city centre railway station

The building of a new multi-million pound Wolverhampton railway station has come a step closer.

The Interchange partnership has submitted plans to demolish the existing station and replace it with a new one.

Work is due to begin on the new railway station next year following the extension and refurbishment of the railway station multi-storey car park, which is expected to be completed by Christmas 2016. Read more...

West Midlands Combined Authority launches Strategic Economic Plan

The West Midlands Combined Authority’s Strategic Economic Plan (SEP), launched today, is the blueprint for the region making its mark regionally, nationally and internationally.

The SEP lays out how the area’s economy can be transformed over the next twenty years, creating 500,000 new jobs, increasing life expectancy, delivering 1.9 million new homes, driving up productivity and skills transforming the region’s prosperity and wellbeing.

The SEP has been developed and agreed by a wide partnership of people, organisations and businesses who share a pride in, and ambition for, an area with unique assets, challenges and opportunities.  It recognises that a stronger West Midlands is not just good for its residents and businesses but also for the UK economy. Read more...

Springfield Campus

Funding secured for safer student walking and cycling route

City of Wolverhampton Council has secured £600,000 to create a safer walking and cycling route for students between the city’s transport Interchange and the University of Wolverhampton’s new Springfield Campus.

The money has come through the Black Country Consortium from the Access to Growth fund.

Currently the streets around what is the former Springfield Brewery site have poor pedestrian and cyclist provision and suffer from traffic passing between Cannock Road and Wednesfield Road, often at inappropriate speeds.

Improvement works are set to start in the summer, with the aim to complete the scheme in time for the opening of the new West Midlands University Technical College (UTC) on the Springfield Campus later this year. Read more...
